Forest Research Centre

Soil & Watershed

This programme started in 1978 with the recruitment of Canadian volunteer (CUSO) to conduct some research activities related to forest soil and also to help set up a soil laboratory to carry out analyses on soil and foliar samples. However, the laboratory and related activities were later taken over by the newly established Chemistry Section in the centre. The programme is under the Soil Science section with the main function of the section is to carry out research activities and soil survey in forest plantation or natural dorest area in order to classify various soil types and to determine their properties. This will be used to assess the suitability of specific site for tree establishment. This section also carries out trials to determine plant response towards fertilization and to investigate other soil related problems in man-made forest or natural forest.
