Common in open situations in forest on steep slopes in the hills and mountains, and may be abundant amongst secondary growth in clearings where the forest regenerating.

:
Large tree fern. The trunks often rots behind the apex, producing new plants from the fragments. The trunk apex,croziers, and young fronds, often rather yellowish green,are covered with long soft hairs.
Uses
:
The hairs, fresh or charred, are used as a styptic and have been used to stuff pillows. The leaves can be used medicinally in cases of fainting.
