All information on soils were from the Land Resource Study 20 series of books
(Volumes 1 to 5), published by the Land Resources Division, Ministry of Overseas

Two inextensive
associations, the Semporna and Gomantong Associations have been mapped on
limestone.
Semporna
Association (21)
The Semporna
Association occurs in the west of the Dent and Semporna Peninsulas, and on adjacent
islands. It occurs on flats and very low hills, with slopes generally less than
5°, formed from coralline limestone.
Gomantong
Association (38)
The Gomantong
Association occurs notably at Gomantong, Gunong Madai and Batu Punggul, and on
Pulau Balambangan and Pulau Banggi. It occurs on outcrops of limestone with
steep, often sheer, slopes.
